Sam’s Club Telehealth Service Is Offering $1 Doctor Visits, Here’s How To Get Access
Walmart’s (WMT) wholesale arm, Sam’s Club, has taken a step into the healthcare arena by teaming up with a virtual telehealth provider to give its customers access to doctor visits that cost as little as $1.
The retailer has partnered with 98point6 to give its club members access to health providers through a text-based app. The offer is available to Sam’s Club customers that have either a Club or a Plus membership.
Through their Sam’s Club membership, customers can purchase a quarterly subscription to 98point6 for $20 per person for the first three months. After the introductory three months, customers will pay $33.50 every three months per person for the service. 98point6 typically charges $30 per participant.
The subscription offers virtual doctor visits for just $1 and unlimited use and access to a number of U.S. board-certified physicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week through its telehealth feature.
Doctors are on hand to diagnose and treat more than 400 conditions such as colds, flu-like symptoms, and seasonal allergies, Sam’s Club said. The wholesale retailer also said the app's service extends to care, guidance, and monitoring of chronic conditions that include diabetes, heart disease, and anxiety.
Pediatric care is also offered for family members ages one and up.
Members can sign up for the subscription service through Sam’s Club’s website.
“Offering access to telemedicine was on our roadmap in the pre-COVID world, but the current environment expedited the need for this service to be easily accessible, readily available, and most of all, affordable,” John McDowell, Vice President of Pharmacy Operations and Divisional Merchandise at Sam’s Club, said in a statement released Tuesday.
“Through providing access to the 98point6 app in a pilot, we quickly realized that our members were eager to have mobile telehealth options and we wanted to provide this healthcare solution to all of our members as a standalone option,” he added.
Sam’s Club did stress that the app telehealth service is not health insurance.
Shares of Walmart were trading at $137.95 as of 2:58 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, up 88 cents or 0.64%.
