Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Update Brings Galaxy Note 7 Grace UX To Marshmallow-Running Phablet

Samsung just salvaged the Grace UX of its discontinued Galaxy Note 7 and seeded it to its surviving top-of-the-line flagship, the Galaxy Note 5. According to recent reports, the Grace UX is being rolled out to the Note 5 via a Marshmallow update.

Over the weekend, XDA-Developer forum member TokyoGuy, also known as Matthew, revealed that his Galaxy Note 5 received a 600MB OTA update out of the blue. Upon downloading and installing the software update, Matthew was surprised to find that his handset was already running on the Galaxy Note 7’s Grace UX. “When the phone rebooted, I was absolutely floored to find none other than the Note 7’s Grace UX on the phone,” Matthew was quoted as saying by PocketNow.

Although it’s unfortunate to know that the Note 5 is still not getting the Nougat treatment with its new update, the addition of Grace UX to the smartphone is still a remarkable feat. Not only does it give the phone a different feel, it also comes with the nighttime-oriented blue light filter that is not in the cards for the Galaxy S7 edge though the latter is expected to receive the Nougat update soon.

As of late, the Grace UX update for the Galaxy Note 5 is only available to units that are on South Korea’s Telecom network. It is still based on Android Marshmallow version 6.0.1, and its firmware version was found to have the code of KKU2CPI1, as per GSM Arena.

In addition to the Grace UX, the new software update reportedly comes with bug fixes and improvements on the stability of the handset’s features. Some of the features that are expected to be part of the new update include Ultra Power Saving Mode, Wide Selfie, Smart Manager and Game Tools, as well as smoother animations.

The update is being rolled out slowly, so users in the U.S. shouldn’t be alarmed if they have yet to receive any notification, telling them to download and install the update on their Note 5 handset, as reported by SamMobile.
