Samsung Galaxy Premiere Announced: AMOLED Tablets Or Colorful Phones May Launch At June 12 Event
Samsung has announced its Galaxy Premiere event will take place on June 12. Several publications have reported receiving invites.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Samsung Mobile CEO JK Shin revealed that the event, to take place in New York at Madison Square Garden, will focus on tablets. The “Tab into color” slogan on the press invite suggests that these tablets may feature AMOLED displays. There are already predictions as to which tablets will be unveiled.
A tablet line dubbed "Galaxy Tab S" has been in the rumor mill lately and was recently spotted at the FCC. The tablet line is expected to come in three models, an 8.4-inch version, a 10.5-inch version and a 13.3-inch version.
The Galaxy Tab S tablets will reportedly feature 2560×1600 resolution displays, an octa-core Samsung Exynos 5420 chipset, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Sensors and connectivity may include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS/GLONASS, LTE and an IR blaster. The tablets should run Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s Magazine UX. As per leaked photos, they may resemble the Samsung Galaxy S5 in exterior design and may also feature a fingerprint scanner.
Though there is a lot of focus on tablets, the Samsung Tomorrow blog also suggests that there may be phones launching at the Galaxy Premiere event. At last year’s Premiere event, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S4 Active, and Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphones in addition to the ATIV Book 9 and ATIV Book 9 Lite notebooks and the ATIV Tab 3 tablet.
Currently, there are a few rumors circulating about Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy S5 Active, and Galaxy S5 Zoom models releasing in June.
One major clue to note about what might be unveiled is the fact that the event is called ‘Samsung Galaxy Premiere’ rather than just ‘Samsung Premiere’ as it was in 2013. As said, the previous event unveiled both Galaxy and ATIV devices. It is likely this year’s event will only unveil Galaxy devices.
