Next month is going to be a busy season for Samsung as it unveils its next-generation flagship smartphone series. Ahead of the official reveal, a new leak surfaced claiming that the 64MP camera of the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus would not offer optical zoom and pixel binning.
Lossless And Not Optical Zoom
According to the latest leak, the camera of both Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus would feature lossless zooming instead of the earlier rumored optical zooming. The latest leak comes from Ice Universe, which seems to align with the details revealed by another tipster Max Weinbach. What does it mean?
It appears that the 64 MP S5KGW2 sensor of both Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus would not produce pixel-binned 16MP images. Samsung would instead utilize the old way of pixel zoom cropping to get zoomed-in shots. The earlier leaked 64 MP sensor on both Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus would be used as the smartphones’ telephoto camera.
The sensor is reportedly the ISOCELL Bright GW2, which the improved model of the GW1 used in various smartphones like in Redmi Note 8 Pro. Aside from the pixel cropping zoom, the telephoto lens would also be used to capture 8K video, according to Ice Universe.

The only difference is that the S20 Plus would feature the Time of Flight (ToF) sensor.
