Samsung Galaxy S4 Active: AT&T Variant Leaked In Photos; Will It Be Released By June 21?
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged version of the original Galaxy S4, had a photo leak yet again, indicating that the company may launch the phone on AT&T at a London event later this month.
At a time when the “Samsung Premiere 2013”, scheduled for June 20 in London, is only days away, @evleaks published yet another photo of the rumored Galaxy S4 Active. The photo shows the date Friday, June 21 on the phone’s home screen, leading to speculation that the device could be released just after the launch.
Other photos of the international version of the Galaxy S4 Active were leaked last month with its back painted red. But what makes the current photo more interesting is the indication that the handset is headed to AT&T, the second largest carrier in the U.S.
“On AT&T, the eight-megapixel Active will be sold under model number SGH-I537, -- in dark grey as well as teal, apparently,” said a report by The Unlocker.
The Galaxy S4 Active, codenamed “J Active,” won’t be the only device launching on AT&T around that time. A bunch of other Samsung handsets have also been tipped to have the same network provider, including Galaxy Mega 6.3 (SGH-I527 “Melius”), Galaxy S4 Mini (SGH-I257 “Serrano”) and Galaxy S3 Mini (SM-G730A “Golden”), the report added.
The Galaxy S4 Active is expected to feature the same specifications as the Galaxy S4 -- a 5-inch full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU clocked at 1.9GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a MicroSD slot for storage expansion and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The only difference between the two could be the camera sensor. While the flagship Galaxy S4 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera, the S4 Active is rumored to feature an 8 megapixel camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is also expected to compete with Sony’s latest Xperia Z, whose water and dust-proof capabilities have impressed many in the tech world. The Xperia Z is confirmed to be launched in the U.S. soon.
