Samsung Galaxy S5 Copper Gold Variant Coming To US: Major Carriers Will Offer The Color Option

Samsung Electronics Co. (NASDAQ:SSNLF) has announced that the Copper Gold Galaxy S5 color option will soon be available in the U.S., coming nearly two months after the global release of the 2014 flagship.

The Korean manufacturer detailed in a press release on Wednesday that the Copper Gold Galaxy S5 will be coming to AT&T (NYSE:T), Sprint (NYSE:S), T-Mobile (NYSE:TMUS) and U.S. Cellular (FRA:US7) starting May 30. Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) will also offer the variant through select indirect retailers. T-Mobile has detailed that the Copper Gold Galaxy S5 will be available for a limited time at select retail stores in addition to online.

For a while it was uncertain whether the Copper Gold Galaxy S5 would be available in the U.S. When the Galaxy S5 first launched, only the Charcoal Black and Shimmer White color options were available. There is also an Electric Blue color option for the Galaxy S5, which has not yet been made available by U.S. carriers.

There are other retailers offering the Copper Gold and Electric Blue Galaxy S5 variants. Overstock.com (NASDAQ:OSTK) has both color options in addition to the Shimmer White available for $730, while GSM Nation has the 3G unlocked Galaxy S5 available in Copper Gold in addition to Shimmer White.

Target (NYSE: TGT) currently has a placeholder for the GSM unlocked Galaxy S5 on its website. Though it says the device is not yet available online or in stores, it has indicated possible availability for all four Galaxy S5 color options.

Samsung opted for a “modern glam” look on the Galaxy S5 with a perforated back panel, which is intended to introduce texture into the handling of the new flagship. Prior to its release, there were many rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S5 might come out with a metal design. But Samsung has opted to continue its tradition of outfitting its flagships in polycarbonate. In addition to the updated design and new color variants, Samsung has also outfitted the Galaxy S5 with an Ingress Protection Rating of IP67. This means that the Galaxy S5 is not only dustproof, but also waterproof for up to 30 minutes in up to one meter of water.
