Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Rumors: MicroSD Slot, Waterproof Capabilities, Massive Batteries, Stunning Camera Expected
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are rumored to get announced in the coming month. Compared to 2015’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones, the successor smartphones are expected to arrive with major improvements.
According to Venture Beat, an unnamed insider who is aware of Samsung’s plans has revealed that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones will be coming with new and improved features such as dust and waterproof capabilities through IP67 certification.
Screen Size And Always-On Display Feature
The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be coming with a 5.1-inch display whereas the Galaxy S7 Edge will be featuring a larger screen of 5.5-inch. Both the handsets will be supporting Quad HD resolution.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge both featured 5.1-inch displays. A new always-on display (AOD) feature is likely to be available on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. This feature will display notifications like downloaded content on certain part of the screen without lighting up the whole screen. This functionality will consume one percent of battery power each hour.
Chipset, RAM And Storage
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be powered by Exynos 8 Octa 8890 chipset from Samsung. The first set of quad cores will be able to churn out processing speeds of 2.3 GHz whereas the remaining four cores will clock at 1.6 GHz. The chipset will also feature Cat. 9 LTE modem.
For users in North America, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones will be powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset. Both the handsets will be arriving with 4 GB of RAM and will be available in two storage variants of 32 GB and 64 GB. The external storage slot with support for 200 GB of microSD card will be also available on the Galaxy S7 variants.
Camera, Battery And Color Variants
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be featuring main cameras of 12-megapixel. Compared to the 16-megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture lens on Galaxy S6 models, the newer camera will be arriving with a larger f/1.7 aperture lens that will be able to snap better photos and videos.
The rear camera hump will be absent and as far as front-facing camera is concerned, both the devices will feature 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The Galaxy S7 will is expected to feature a battery of 3000 mAh whereas a 3600 mAh battery will be powering the Galaxy S7 Edge.
With wireless charging, it will take 3 hours and 2.2 hours to fully charge S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, respectively. Both devices will be available in color options like black, white and gold.
As the South Korean tech giant has done before, the Samsung Galaxy S7 variants are expected to get unveiled before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 event that will begin in the middle of next month. The worldwide release of both smartphones is likely to start in March.
