Samsung Galaxy Tab S Photos And Tech Specs; Check Out The New Flagship Tablet
The Galaxy Tab S by Samsung Electronics Co. (KRX:005930) was announced on Thursday in New York City as the manufacturer’s first tablet with flagship status, on par with Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices.
Trimmed in gold, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S features a modern, sleek look and a design on par with the Galaxy S5. At just 6.6 mm, the Galaxy Tab S is one of the world's thinnest tablets -- even thinner than most smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S will be available in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models, and it comes in either titanium bronze and dazzling white color options.
The newly announced tablet introduces the WQXGA (2560 x 1600 pixel) Super AMOLED display to the market. In addition, the Galaxy Tab S is the thinnest and lightest tablet by Samsung; it connects with smartphones and laptops, and it provides high-level security.
In addition to its high-resolution Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S features either an Exynos Octa or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, depending on where you buy it, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB internal storage options with microSD support up to 128GB.
Camera modules on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S include an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash and a 2.1-megapixel rear camera with Full HD video capabilities.
The 10.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S features a 7,900mAh battery, which provides up to 11 hours of power.
The 8.4-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S features a 4,900mAh battery.
Content services and featured applications on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S include the Papergarden interactive magazine app; the Professional pack, which includes apps for conference calls and other work-related needs; SideSync 3.0, which allows users to connect to and mirror a Galaxy S5 smartphone on a Galaxy S Tab; Multi-user mode, which allows for up to eight user profiles on one tablet; and the Gear and Gear fit manager, a hub for controlling the Samsung Gear and Gear Fit companion devices.
In addition to many Samsung-branded apps, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S also includes apps from Google Play services such as Chrome, Gmail, Google Search, Maps, Play Store, Voice Search, YouTube, Google+, Hangouts, Play Books, Play Games, Play Newsstand, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Drive, Google setting and Photos.
Connectivity features include the latest standards in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IrLED. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S features standard GPS in addition to GLONASS and Beidou satellite services. Sensors include an accelerometer, fingerprint sensor, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, hall sensor and RGB sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S Wi-Fi variant is now available for preorder and will launch in the U.S. in July. Release dates for the LTE variant will be announced later. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi model will sell for $399 while the Galaxy Tab 10.5 Wi-Fi model will sell for $499.
