Samsung Gear S2 Classic 3G Smartwatch With eSIM Headed To T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon On March 11
Very recently, Samsung launched the Gear S2 Classic’s Rose Gold and Platinum variants. Now, a 3G version of the Classic device has been introduced by the South Korean tech giant.
As the name implies, Samsung’s Gear S2 Classic 3G smartwatch comes with a 3G-capable built-in eSIM to connect to any nearby network. This avoids the need for a dedicated SIM card and the lengthy process of activation, GSM Arena reported. Instead, this SIM apparently supports remote activation, straight from the comforts of your home.
This smartwatch can be purchased from T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon starting March 11. Samsung’s official website said the Gear S2 Classic 3G smartwatch is in fact 4G LTE capable. However, the 4G connectivity apparently refers to the use of HSPA+ voice and data networks.
Design-wise, Samsung said that the Gear S2 Classic 3G features a fashionable leather band, in addition to sporting a rotating-bezel design. Using the rotating dial, device owners can navigate through the notifications, apps and widgets in a quick manner.
Spec-wise, this device comes with a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display, aided by 360 x 360 resolution. This display combination translates to a pixel density of 302 ppi.
Under the hood, a 1 GHz dual-core processor powers the gadget and it comes backed by 512 MB of RAM. On the software end, it runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS.
When it comes to memory configuration, the Gear S2 comes equipped with 4 GB of native storage space. Apart from the 3G connectivity, it also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and wireless charging.
Furthermore, a 300 mAh battery unit helps keep the lights on. This gadget comes with IP 68 rating for dust and water resistance. Similar to other smartwatches, this one also supports a bunch of sensors like heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and ambient light detection, to name a few.
This device reportedly weighs 54 grams and it will be made available in Black hue. Even though it’s compatible with many Android handsets, it does not support Apple’s iOS-based devices.
