Samsung Might Ditch The Headphone Jack Starting With The Galaxy Note 10

Samsung is one of the few biggest smartphone manufacturers that is still putting the 3.5mm headphone jack on its flagship smartphones. However, a new report claims that the South Korean company might ditch the legacy port next year.

Sources claim that Samsung is planning to remove the headphone jack from its smartphones starting in or after fall 2019, according to Korean website ETNews. It’s now being speculated that the first smartphone to ditch the headphone jack might be the Galaxy Note 10. The other handset that’s speculated to be the first Samsung flagship to ditch the audio port is the Galaxy S11, which is expected to be released in early 2020.

As for the Galaxy S10, which is expected to launch sometime in early 2019, that device is said to still come equipped with the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Sources also said that Samsung will be going all-in on using USB Type-C as its only port for both charging and wired audio headphones. It’s also very likely that Samsung will direct its customers to start using wireless headphones. Samsung is no stranger to that type of audio accessories since it already has true wireless headphones with the Gear IconX.

Samsung is also expected to keep pushing its range of wireless headphones in 2019. It’s already being rumored that the company might release a new pair of true wireless headphones that might be called the Samsung Buds, according to Phone Arena.

The sources didn’t provide a reason as to why Samsung has decided to ditch the headphone jack next year. However, it’s possible the company wants to increase its sales of wireless headphones. Another possibility here is that Samsung may want to remove it to bring more innovations to its handsets.

Removing the headphone jack should allow Samsung to put even bigger batteries on its devices. The upcoming OnePlus 6T, for example, ditched the audio port in order to put a larger battery capacity and incorporate an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The death of the 3.5mm headphone jack began when Apple released the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016. Since then, many Android phone manufacturers followed Apple’s footsteps. Samsung is the only one that didn’t and the company even threw jabs at Apple for removing it, as pointed out by Mashable.

With Samsung now planning to remove the headphone jack next year, it’s almost certain that a lot of its fans will be disappointed. Although wireless headphones are convenient, a lot of audiophiles prefer using wired headphones for the best possible audio experience. Samsung will most likely include a dongle adapter when it decides to release a phone without a headphone jack.
