Samsung is bringing its most rugged tablet designed for use in harsh conditions and industrial applications to Western shores.

In a press release, South Korean tech giant Samsung announced that it is bringing the Galaxy Tab Active Pro – its most ruggedized tablet yet for industrial use – to the U.S. The Wi-Fi version is now available in country via Samsung's IT reseller partner channels, while an LTE-version, which can be used in places without wi-fi, will arrive in America on Nov. 15.

“With the Galaxy Tab Active Pro, we listened to our customers, and designed a ruggedized device that delivers on high reliability, great battery life, and rock-solid security—all built into the convenience of a feature-rich, purpose-built tablet,” Taher Behbehani, head of Mobile B2B, Samsung Electronics America, said.

Specs

The Galaxy Tab Active Pro succeeds Samsung's earlier ruggedized offering, the Galaxy Tab Active 2. It sports a 10.1-inch WUXGA screen with 1,920 X 1,200 resolution. This display has a max 550 nits brightness which means it can be used in bright lighting conditions outdoors.

The ruggedized tablet is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, expandable to 512GB via MicroSD. It has a removable fast-charging 7,600 mAh battery that can be expected to last for up to 15 hours of continued use. This means users can take an extra battery with them and not worry about the device losing juice.

The Galaxy Tab Active Pro features a 13MP rear camera and an 8GB front-facing shooter. These cameras will be very helpful when making field reports, or when joining team meetings from afar. A headphone jack allows users to plug wired headphones in, and a fingerprint sensor ensures files and documents are kept safe.

The IP68 rating for water and dust resistance also means it can be used even when it's raining outside. Its MIL-STD 810G certification assures users that it can withstand drops. Samsung said the device can be used when wearing light gloves. The ruggedized tablet also comes with a dust-resistant S Pen that can be used even when the screen is wet, Samsung said.

The Galaxy Tab Active Pro also features Samsung's DeX5, which allows users to connect it to a monitor to be used just like a desktop computer. These features, along with the device's ruggedness, make the Tab Active Pro the best choice for rougher work environments.

The Wi-Fi version, which is available now, costs $599.99. The LTE version, on the other hand, will cost $679.99. Both will be available via Samsung.com soon, The Verge reported.
