Saoirse Ronan has opened up about her upcoming movie “Ammonite” and revealed how Kate Winslet recruited her for the proejct. The actress noted that Winslet called her shortly after she did a romantic scene on top of a frozen lake with Timothée Chalamet and immediately thought that Ronan was a good choice for the role in “Ammonite.”
During the virtual presentation at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the 26-year-old actress talked about some specific details about her upcoming movie and shared the story when she and Winslet discussed about “Ammonite” while filming Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.” Ronan said that the “Revolutionary Road” star always wanted her to be part of the film and talked about it on the phone, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The “Lady Bird” star told Winslet about the romantic scene she performed with Chalamet on top of a frozen lake and called it a “Titanic moment.” Ronan then said that Winslet told her she wanted her to be in the movie from the very start.
“She was a real supporter of me doing it, so she was behind me from the get-go, which was brilliant. We talked a couple of times on the phone because I was doing ‘Little Women’ around the time I was talking to Francis about the film. Actually, I had just done a scene with Timothée on the ice, swinging each other around. I was like, ‘This is our ‘Titanic’ moment!’ and then Kate called. It's Rose!” Entertainment Weekly quoted Ronan, as saying.
The actress praised the “The Mountains Between Us” star and called her “friendly.” She also revealed that her bond with Winslet grew stronger while filming the movie.
“I think a big part of that is because she's very personable, friendly, and open. We were really lucky. Two women getting to come together, especially in the intimate scenes, being able to choreography that ourselves was a new experience for me. It was great to be able to do that with Kate,” Ronan said during the discussion.
Helmed by Francis Lee, the movie had its premiere at the 77th Venice Film Festival and opened to positive reviews. The critics praised Winslet and Ronan for their respective roles, claiming that both are surely going to get nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards.
“Ammonite” is scheduled to hit the theaters on Nov. 13.
