Savannah Guthrie Gets Inked Together With Drew Barrymore, Explains Meaning Behind Tattoos

Savannah Guthrie, who recently got her first tattoo with Drew Barrymore, explained the connection behind their inks and their respective families.

The 51-year-old broadcaster revealed on the "Today" show Tuesday that she and Barrymore have been thinking about getting inked since last year.

Guthrie explained the tattoo on her right forearm was "an exact carbon copy" of her father's handwriting.

"'All my love.' He wrote a love letter to my mom and this is his writing. And, so that's the first time in my life, I'm 51 years old, that I've had a tattoo, that I ever wanted a tattoo. ... And it's not only his writing, so he's with me, but I'm trying to make it my mantra for life."

Guthrie further shared she didn't inform her mother before getting the tattoo, before noting the process was painless.

"It didn't hurt that much at all," she said. "It was like a little pin prick."

Barrymore, on the other hand, got a tattoo on her left forearm that reads, "BREATHE."

Guthrie explained Barrymore's tattoo was based on her kids--Olive, 10 and Frankie, 8. The actress shares her two kids with her ex-husband, actor Will Kopelman. They were married from 2012 to 2016.

The network also showed a pre-recorded interview of Barrymore and Guthrie, which was filmed before they got tattoos. The 47-year-old actress shared she had already gotten inked 11 or 12 times before, noting it will be Guthrie's first time.

"She has a very special one that she's getting," Barrymore said. Guthrie chimed in, "I've never had a tattoo. I know, it's really scary. I can't believe I'm doing it. I mean, I haven't told anyone."

The broadcaster explained she will be getting a tattoo similar to Barrymore, who had her mother's handwriting tattooed, which read: "Love you more."

Barrymore said, "I feel like we need to leave this studio and go get this tattoo in honor of her [Guthrie's mom] 80th birthday!" Guthrie replied, "I would get a tattoo with you anytime."

The actress shared the clip on her Instagram on Tuesday.

Aside from the pre-recorded interview, they also showed photos of themselves posing together with their new tattoos.
