Scarlett Johansson is moving on from her Black Widow role to a new project: skincare.
On Monday, Johansson announced her plans to launch her own skincare brand in 2022. In a statement obtained by L’Officiel and Women’s Wear Daily, the “Avengers” star detailed her plans for her new endeavor.
“I’ve been fascinated by the transformative power of beauty since I was a child. My mother instilled in me a passion for self-care from my early teenage years,” she said in the statement.
Johansson is not new to the beauty sphere as she was the brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris in the past. She also endorsed the fragrance line of Dolce & Gabbana. However, she quietly stepped away from these deals years ago, without giving hints as to what she’s been preparing — until now.
“Several years ago, I took a step back from my beauty deals with the goal of creating something true to me. The result is a clean, accessible approach to beauty,” Johansson continued.
The 36-year-old Hollywood actress has teamed up with beauty/fashion executive Kate Foster and The Najafi Companies for the brand.
The firm invested between $5 million and $10 million in the label, whose name has not yet been revealed, New York Post reported. The company also funded Tracee Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty.
Jahm Najafi, chief executive of Najafi Companies, told WWD that they are pleased to partner with Johansson and Foster for the upcoming beauty company.
“We are passionate about supporting ambitious and thoughtful founders and management teams who lead with integrity and vision. Scarlett and Kate fit squarely in the type of leaders with whom we love to partner for the long term,” Najafi was quoted as saying by the outlet.
The news comes the same day as Johansson’s admission in an interview with “Good Morning America” that it’s kind of “bittersweet” for her to finally say goodbye to her superspy role as Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel movies.
“I think it's bittersweet. I've had an incredible decade working with my Marvel family. I'm going to miss not seeing them every 18 months or two years, like those kind of milestones I always really look forward to,” Johansson said.
Johansson’s solo Marvel movie, “Black Widow,” is scheduled for release on July 7.
