‘School Of Rock’ Season 3: Ricardo Hurtado Teases Whats Ahead For Fremmer
“School of Rock” went on a few-month long hiatus after airing only a few episodes of its third season, but that break ends with the return of new episodes, starting Saturday night.
Nickelodeon’s TV series adaptation of the the 2003 film, which starred Jack Black, debuted in March 2016, and is now about to air the seventh episode of its 20-episode third season.
International Business Times caught up with one of the stars of the series, Ricardo Hurtado, who plays Freddy, at the Nickelodeon HALO Awards orange carpet on Nov. 4 to get the scoop on what’s to come in the new episodes of the show, as well as about the future of the series.
Though Hurtado was “very positive about” the outlook of a Season 4 for “School of Rock” when IBT spoke with him a couple of weeks ago, the network announced on Wednesday that the show had been canceled and Season 3 would be its last. That said, there might be plans for Paramount Television, which produces the show, to look for another network to take on the series, according to Deadline.
Even without a Season 4, “School of Rock” still has 14 episodes left to air of its third season, including tonight’s new episode.
Hurtado gives IBT the lowdown on what fans can expect in the new episodes, his dream guest star and how the cast prepares for those big musical performances.
International Business Times: What can fans expect to see when the show returns?
Ricardo Hurtado: It’s gonna be very epic because there's just a lot going on this season. The first couple episodes that came out kind of, you know, exposition-type deal, but the last couple episodes that are coming out are gonna hit home with all the Fremmer situation. A lot of those fans are going to be happy, and sad, I guess, but I can't give away too much, but make sure to check it out.
IBT: What kind of musical performances will fans see?
Hurtado: There's going to be some crazy musical performances. One of our biggest musical performances on the show happens in one of the episodes. It's going to be crazy.
IBT: How do you prepare for the musical performances?
Hurtado: We practice a lot. We all play our instruments, which is really cool 'cause we get to actually jam out on the weekends and practice our songs. So, there's a lot of preparation. We have to really know our songs and play them well, so we put a lot into it and we get a lot out.
IBT: Who is dream guest star to have on the show?
Hurtado: Dream guest star? That is tough. I would probably have to say Gal Gadot 'cause I just think she is so beautiful.
“School of Rock” returns to Nickelodeon with new episodes tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST.
