Scotland Votes ‘No’ To Independence: Celebrities, Politicians React On Twitter

Voters in Scotland on Thursday rejected independence from the UK in a historic referendum. According to reports, voters in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, voted in favor of independence, while those in the capital of Edinburgh cast their votes against it.
About 55 percent voted “No” across Scotland as the referendum reportedly drew a record turnout of voters casting ballots. British Prime Minister David Cameron expressed his delight at the outcome but the referendum result is a blow to First Minister Alex Salmond who had campaigned for an independent Scotland. Salmond reportedly said the fact that about 1.6 million people, or 45 percent, voted "Yes" to breaking away from the UK was a victory in itself.
Here are some notable reactions, from politicians and celebrities, to the result, on Twitter.
Feel sad for those who campaigned hard for a yes vote. Hopefully some meaningful change will come of this. It was by no means a landslide.

#indyref Been up all night watching Scotland make history. A huge turnout, a peaceful democratic process: we should be proud.

it's so wonderful to wake up to a still-United Kingdom, a country which can go on playing a positive role in a dangerous world #indyref

The #indyref has led to demand for constitutional reform across the UK. People want power in their own hands, not hoarded in Westminster.

So this #indyref marks not only a new chapter for Scotland within the UK but a new chapter of constitutional renewal across the UK.
