Serena Williams Teaches Daughter Alexis Olympia ‘Value In Sports’ In New Commercial
Serena Williams recently taught her 11-week-old daughter, Alexis Olympia, the value in playing sports.
The over one-minute commercial opens with a baby lying on her crib before Williams picks her up and cradles her on her shoulder. Williams tells the infant that she wouldn’t mind if her daughter shows no interest in playing tennis. But she begs the little one to never stop playing in life.
Williams went on to share to the baby some of the things she’s learned through playing sports. “Just like it taught me, sports will teach you to be strong. You’ll discover the power and grace of your body. You’ll learn to move and you’ll learn the way to move others,” she said.
The commercial ends with a line from Gatorade that says, “The lessons learned in sports will help you win beyond the field.” A spokesperson for Gatorade told AdAge that Williams was supposed to star in the commercial with Alexis Olympia herself. However, the infant was feeling a bit under the weather during the filming.
“While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set, but the sentiment remains the same,” the spokesperson said.
Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their daughter back in September. One week before their Nov. 16 wedding, Williams revealed that Ohanian has been spoiling their little one with toys and clothes. On her Twitter account, the athlete said that she will already lose it if Ohanian comes home with another piece of clothing for Alexis Olympia.
The doting dad replied to Williams’ tweet and said that books don’t count so he will get those for his child.
Williams and Ohanian’s wedding was held at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleands. According to Brides.com, the couple’s wedding was held on Nov. 16 as Williams and Ohanian’s way of honoring his late mother on her birthday.
