KEY POINTS
- Ronaldo's history moment came during Juve's Sunday match
- The superstar scored twice in his club's 3-1 win
- Juve are now back on the top spot in Serie A
Cristiano Ronaldo struck a brace on Sunday in Juventus' 3-1 win at home and entered history books yet again.
The Juventus forward, who has five goals in his last four games, took his season's tally to 11 in 19 appearances and in the process, he became the only player in Europe's top five leagues to register double figures in all competitions in each of the last 15 seasons (since 2005-06 campaign).
Ronaldo clinched the record when the Italian club hosted Udinese at the Allianz Stadium and the win took them back to the top of the 2019-20 Serie A points table.
The Italian leaders came out attacking right from the beginning as they gave no room for a comeback to their opponents in the first half. The former Real Madrid superstar netted twice in the first half before Juve's 32-year-old defender Leonardo Bonucci headed in his side's third just seconds before the half-time whistle.
The visitors were a lot better when the play resumed after the break. However, Ronaldo could have secured a hat-trick but all he managed was to hit the post in the final minutes. Meanwhile, Ignacio Pussetto got a consolation goal for Udinese in injury time, with a deflection giving him the space he needed in the box.
It was a much-needed win for Juventus, who had dropped points in their previous two Serie A matches, including their season's first loss that came against Lazio on the previous matchday.
Ronaldo's record with Real Madrid was even better. The fewest goals he managed for them in a single season was 33, which came in his maiden edition with them. In every other season, Ronaldo managed to score 42 or more goals with his best campaign being 2014-15 where he netted mind-boggling tally of 61 goals.
In his first season with Juventus, which was 2018-19, Ronaldo managed only 28 goals in 42 appearances.
