Tammy Abraham had reservations about leaving Chelsea, a place that he considered his home.

However, the 24-year-old found himself falling down the pecking order with the entry of Thomas Tuchel.

Despite that development, Abraham was still hopeful of getting the chance to stay on with his boyhood club.

Abraham admitted that he got several offers from other clubs but it was that one phone call from AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho that convinced him to make the switch.

“I could see where he wanted Roma to go and see where he wants to take them and I wanted to be part of the process. He really put his trust in me so he was a big impact on the reason why I chose Roma,” Abraham said in a report from Sky Sports.

That decision has done wonders for the English striker. Abraham agreed to a five-year deal after being acquired for a transfer fee worth £34 million ($46.3 million), BBC reported.

But the investment seems to be worth it with the striker responding by scoring four goals in his first 10 matches under Mourinho.

In all, it was a gamble for Abraham that has paid off. He may be in a different environment, but it paved the way for the Englishman to be back in the spotlight.

“I realized that I needed to go out and prove myself, I needed to play some games. I took a decision and it was the right one,” he shared.

"Players like Mason [Mount], Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi--the players that are younger than me, I kind of had to lift them and be their support, help them and encourage them,” Abraham added.
