Shane Mosley Reveals Why McGregor Match Didn’t Happen, Talks Mayweather-Pacquiao Rematch
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather’s former foe, Shane Mosley, just explained why the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch should happen and why Mosley vs. McGregor didn’t happen.
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 is not only what fans want to witness soon. Even the greatest boxers in the world would want to see both legends square-off once and for all.
Mosley, a former rival of both Pacquiao and Mayweather, just had an interview with Elie Sechback of EsNews and discussed about Mayweather, Pacquiao and UFC’s Conor McGregor. The former boxing champ was in the middle of a training session with WBA super-lightweight champion Regis Prograis when the interview happened.
Before talking about Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch, Mosley said that he was right about his prediction in Pacquiao’s latest fight. However, he was surprised by Keith Thurman’s performance.
“I was actually surprised by Keith Thurman I thought he did an excellent job,” Mosley said.
Mosley added that he’s proud of Thurman for not being afraid of Pacquiao during the fight.
“He (Thurman) fought like he want to keep His belt and he wasn’t afraid of Pacquiao. I’m proud of him, I think he did a great job,” Mosley added.
When asked if he would ever fight Pacquiao again, Mosley was quick to respond and said that he’s already “done” with boxing.
“No, no I’m done, I’m done,” Mosley said.
The former welterweight champ then stated that among the fights that are presented to Pacquiao lately, Mayweather rematch is what should happen.
Even Prograis stated that MayPac 2 isn’t just a boxing event but a “world event” that people would still want to see.
“It’s a world event, I think everybody still gon’ want to see it,” Prograis said.
Mosley then followed Prograis’ statement by saying that Mayweather and Pacquiao could fight not only for the belts but also for the whole boxing community. He even noted that both legends were the “Top 2” greatest boxers on BoxRec and therefore they could also settle for the no. 1 spot inside the ring.
“They could fight for all, they were rated on BoxRec as 1 and 2 so, 1 and 2 could go ahead and get along,” Mosley noted.
At some point during the interview, Mosley looked back at the epic Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. As Mosley recalled the moment, he revealed that he also called out McGregor once. However, the UFC star wanted to fight Mayweather which is totally fine with Mosley.
“I remember I called him out too, I called Conor McGregor out too. (but) he wanted Mayweather which I can see (why),” Mosley said.
