“Dancing With the Stars” won’t be back on television screens in the spring, but that doesn’t mean the show isn’t necessarily cooking up some surprises for its loyal fanbase for when it finally does make a return.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, reigning Mirrorball champion Sharna Burgess revealed that she and the rest of the pro cast didn’t know the ABC series was taking a hiatus for the Spring until it was publicly announced, but it made sense because of conflicts in the network’s schedule due to the return of “American Idol.”

“When the news came out I was incredibly surprised. I knew it was a bit of a conversation, there was a buzz about it,” she said. “Of course, we have ‘Idol’ now on ABC, and we did try a four-week season last year and it was not a fan-favorite. Although it was great, it was just too, too short for us.”

However, she assured fans that there is no need to worry about whether or not the series would make a comeback for Season 28 in the Fall, even hinting that there could be a surprise hitting televisions in the summer months.

“So, I don’t know if they are planning anything that might be a surprise in the summer,” she said. “Maybe there’s [another] ‘Juniors.’ [But] I don’t have info, don’t quote me on it! It’s just a guess on my part.”

Overall though, she thinks the break will be good for both the show and the fans, since people will likely miss the series when it isn’t on, making them more eager for a return.

“I’m actually kind of excited,” she admitted. “Not it’s all settled in, that people are gonna miss us for a little second.”
