Sharon Osbourne Stands By Her Kim Kardashian Comments On Nude Selfies, Feminism
Sharon Osbourne recently clarified her recent comments regarding Kim Kardashian’s nude photos.
During a Facebook Live session on Wednesday, the talk show host said that she doesn’t have any problems with how the reality TV star uses her body, but she does not believe Kardashian has the right to call herself a feminist just because she bares her body in front of the camera. “But I don’t think you can turn around and say, ‘I’m a feminist.’ I don’t think that what she does equals feminism. Yes, she’s done it on her own; yes, she doesn’t rely on a man for her living – but I don’t think because you bare your body that makes you a feminist,” she said.
Last week, the “X Factor” judge criticized Kardashian while speaking with Telegraph. “If Kim Kardashian wants to show off her body, fine. But that’s not feminism, that’s being a ho. And there’s nothing wrong with being a ho, but always remember what you are,” she said. Osbourne received flak for her statement, especially from Kardashian’s supporters.
Osbourne further revealed that her issues with Kardashian’s nude selfies have to do with the kind of message it sends to the reality star’s fans. Osbourne’s co-host, Sheryl Underwood, supported her statement by saying, “While Kim is a genius business woman, she has a lot of young girls following her and what example would that be if all these young girls thought, ‘Well this is the way I’m going to make it…’ There’s a lot of girls out there who aren’t going to make it and are going to be taken advantage of.”
On Tuesday, Kardashian posted another nude selfie, and some fans believed it was a clap back at Osbourne and her comments. In the snap, Kardashian is standing on a tree branch in nothing but her boots and star pasties on. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star did not throw shade at Osbourne in her caption and simply shared details about photographers Mert and Marcus’ upcoming book.
Osbourne also doesn’t think that Kardashian’s latest photo was the latter’s way of responding to her indirectly. “Why would she care what anybody says about her? She’s riding high,” she said.
