‘She’s The Man’ Star Suggests Sequel Movie After Amanda Bynes’ New Interview
Amanda Bynes, who hasn’t acted since 2010’s “Easy A,” opened up about her departure from the spotlight in a new interview, as well as her experience working on the classic 2006 teen movie, “She’s the Man.” This prompted an idea from one of her co-stars from the film.
In response to an article containing some of Bynes’ thoughts on “She’s the Man,” Brandon Jay McLaren, who starred as Toby in the film, tweeted, “Sequel?”
It’s been 12 years since the Andy Fickman-directed flick was released, and McLaren’s been busy with projects like “UnREAL” and “Ransom” since, but it appears he’s ready to put on his soccer cleats once again.
While Bynes shared in her new Paper Magazine interview that she’s interested in acting again, it seems unlikely she’d want to return to her “She’s the Man” role because of the “deep depression” she fell into after seeing herself portray a girl in drag posing as her brother.
Although she might associate the film with this bad aftermath experience, a sequel likely wouldn’t see her return to the world of drag because she’d already shown her true identity at the end of the first movie.
Despite having some sour thoughts related to the movie, Bynes did share some of the positive aspects of the filming experience, including the fact that she was the one who pushed to have Channing Tatum cast as her love interest.
“I totally fought for Channing [to get cast in] that movie because he wasn’t famous yet,” she said. “He’d just done a Mountain Dew commercial and I was like, ‘This guy’s a star — every girl will love him!’”
Fans will just have to wait to see what’s next for Bynes and if a “She’s the Man” sequel happens to be in the cards.
