SHINee’s Taemin Opens Up About His Singing Career, Childhood & Upcoming Album

South Korean band SHINee’s Taemin recently participated in an interview and pictorial for W Korea where he shared details of his journey as a singer, upcoming albums, and more.

Lee Tae-min, popularly known as Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee under SM Entertainment in 2008. During the interview, the reporter stated that he was shocked to know that Taemin has been active in the industry for 12 years.

"At this point, there are things I’m seeing for the first time, but there are a lot of things that are the same. Earlier this year, I did my hair and dressed up the way I looked during my debut at 16 and took a photo. I posted it on Instagram and the fans really thought it was an old photo of me. But I still think I look older," said Taemin while responding to the reporter.

Taemin is also a part of SM’s supergroup, SuperM, and has also established himself as a solo artist. He began his solo career in 2014 with his first extended play titled "Ace."

"When I look back on my life, it seems fascinating even to me. I was 13 when I entered SM Entertainment and I turned 28 this year. I’ve been a singer for almost half my life. I’ve been running on this road for a long time. I think that I had a lot of greed when I was younger. Because I was ambitious, I was able to debut with SHINee and get the chance to debut solo. I feel a sense of accomplishment. Of course, there was a lot of luck involved," he said.

Taemin is also an actor by profession and made his acting debut in 2009. The idol expressed his liking and interest in "Black Mirror," a British television series.

"I’m the type to like unusual things. I used to try and avoid movies that were popular. I felt that those movies were repeating elements that had already been popular with consumers before," he said while talking about his preferences in pop culture, according to Soompi.

He further mentioned that he now likes things that he can watch with a light heart.

"These days, I put on a movie and do something else while watching it. In the past, I would watch old independent movies or thrillers according to my taste and I would get really tired after watching one film. Because I focused so much while watching them, I used up a lot of energy," he added.

While talking about his upcoming album, Taemin said that he hopes that it acts as yet another turning point for him.

"Like 'Sherlock,' I want to use this chance to change the person that I am. As a person and also as a performer. People might listen to this album and like it or not, but I don’t want to worry about that anymore," he said.

Taemin will be releasing his album titled "Never Gonna Dance Again Act 1" on Sept. 7. He is also working with SuperM on a new single titled "Tiger Inside" which is set to release on Sept. 1.
