“For the People” Season 1 just tapped Jasmin Savoy Brown to join the cast as Allison.

According to Deadline, Allison is Sandra’s (Britt Robertson) roommate in Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming ABC series. In the pilot, Sandra was played by “Parenthood” alum Lyndon Smith, but Robertson replaced her as the lead in the series last month.

In July, TV Line described Sandra as a fiercely independent public defender who started pursuing this career after her family suffered grave injustice. Allison and Sandra were best friends in law school and now work together in the Federal Public Defender’s Office.

Brown previously guest-starred in Rhimes’ medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” where she played the role of Amanda Joseph. She also starred in “The Leftovers” as Evangeline Murphy. In Freeform’s “Stitchers,” Savoy gave life to the character of Nina. She also guest-starred in one episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in 2014.

In May, ABC announced that “For the People” Season 1 will premiere midseason. The network picked up Rhimes’ newest show right after ABC announced the cancellation of “The Catch” after only two seasons.

“For the People” is set in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, which is also known as the Mother Court. The series will follow the lives of a group of new lawyers who are working for both the prosecution and defense teams. They will be tasked to handle the most high-stakes and high-profile cases in the country that could either make or break their career. Even though each lawyer handles an individual case, their lives will be tangled up with each other outside the courtroom.

ABC dropped a teaser for “For the People” Season 1 a few months ago, and it showed how hectic the lives of lawyers could be. The characters come together in the courtroom while a judge briefs them of what to expect. The judge also tells them that they are bound to lose some cases, but they still have to do their best and try to get the ruling they want.

“For the People” Season 1 also stars Anna Deavere Smith and Ben Rappaport.
