Shooting At Texas Home Kills 12-Year-Old Boy, Injures Two Others; Police Find Weapon
A 12-year-old boy was killed and two other people were wounded after a shooting incident Thursday in Harris County in Houston, Texas. Officials received a call about a possible shooting on Bammelwood Drive near Bammel Village Drive, shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, following which they reached the spot to investigate.
The boy, identified as Deunte Cooks, was shot dead and officials found his body at a single-story house about 20 miles from downtown Houston, Houston Chronicle reported. A man, 23, was shot several times at the premises while an 18-year-old man faced a slight abrasion from a bullet. Both the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, the report said, adding that a bullet hole was visible in the garage and one of the officials said that a gun was found at the location.
"At this point, we know there's a disturbance, we don't know what type," Cedrick Collier, an official for the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said, according to KHOU, a local news network affiliated to CBS News, adding: "We have recovered a weapon."
Alma Hardy, Cooks’ aunt, claimed that the incident began when someone knocked on the door asking for Cooks’ 23-year-old brother Dashawn Norwood, adding that Cooks was shot because he was a witness to a violent confrontation, KHOU reported. Norwood reportedly jumped out the window in a bid to escape.
