  • She revealed it was not a planned pregnancy

Singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding recently revealed that she is pregnant with her first child.

The 34-year-old took to Instagram to thank everyone for the kind wishes and messages following the news. The "Love Me Like You Do" singer and her husband Caspar Jopling, who got married in August 2019, are already 30 weeks into the pregnancy.

In an interview with Vogue, the singer revealed the couple was away celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary and weren't aware she was pregnant.

"That was [around] the time when [Caspar and I] went away briefly when we were allowed to for our one-year anniversary, and that’s basically when we found out. It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary," she added.

"That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality. Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human," she said. "I want a better word than womanly, [but]—I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it."

Goulding admitted that initially she did not believe she was pregnant because she continued "eating the same" and "looking the same." The singer noted she was in denial for a while, but soon she started to adapt to the changes.

"I started having a completely different body and different energy, I couldn’t deal with everything!" she added.

The singer further noted she used to be "smug" about her healthy eating habits such as consuming seeds, nuts, salads, and breakfasts, People reported. However, things changed as she started to crave McDonald's all of a sudden, Goulding added.

“And I was kind of terrified, I suddenly wanted all of the bad things! Whatever this baby did when it took over my body was like, Hell no—I do not want broccoli, spinach, collards! I just wanted sugar and carbs,” she laughed.

The singer also reflected on the challenges she faced during her pregnancy, such as tiredness and sickness.

"I feel like it's a taboo to talk about pregnancy as being challenging. It's not always serene and like you're not always glowing. I'm not saying that every second of this pregnancy has been miserable," she added.

Goulding acknowledged pregnancy is not always going to be easy and now, she has more respect for mothers.
