Mike Mora, the husband of award-winning singer Kelis, passed away Monday. He succumbed to stage 4 stomach cancer five months after he was diagnosed with the disease.

Kelis' management team confirmed the sad news in a statement to ET and asked for privacy for the family during this time of mourning. "Sadly, it's true that Mike Mora has passed away. We would ask all to respect Kelis and her family's privacy as of right now. Thank you," Steve Satterhwaite of Red Light Management said.

Mora, a photographer, first shared the news of his cancer diagnosis in November 2021. "You always see people post about how life is too short," he wrote at the time.

"How you should reach out to those you love no matter where life has taken you. It is the truth. Don't take your time here, your time with friends, family, for granted. Sh-t can be over just like that!" he added, before ending his post, "Love you @kelis."

Mora also took to Instagram to chronicle his life since his cancer diagnosis, saying that his doctor had given him only 18 months to live. In a series of posts, he revealed that his symptoms started around September 2020, when he felt "the worst pain" in his stomach shortly after moving out of Los Angeles with his family.

"Loss of appetite. Pain in my back also started to creep in… finally decided to do something about it. It was a bit late. But just in time," he wrote in an Instagram post. He also shared that he learned about his cancer just shortly after he and Kelis welcomed their daughter.

"I thought the whole time that I just had an ulcer. With no idea what was about to come my way. Here I was, in a hospital bed, during the middle of the pandemic. All alone," he added.

Meanwhile, several friends of Mora paid tribute to him after the news about his death broke out. One of them was Evan Ross, who took to Instagram Monday to share a photo of Mora. "We lost a brother yesterday," he captioned his now-deleted post. "We will truly miss you Mike. Thinking of some of the great times we all spent together."
