Six-Year-Old Witnesses Uncle 'Kill' Pregnant Mother, Sits By Her Body All Night
In a shocking incident, a six-year-old girl had to witness her pregnant mother being brutally murdered by her uncle. The child sat by her mother's body all night till her grandmother returned home the next morning, reports said.
According to The Times Of India, the incident took place in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Vineeta from the Subash Nagar area of Bareilly.
Police said the victim was alone at home with her daughter when her brother-in-law, Akash Kumar, came home late at night. Her husband was out of the city. The woman's mother-in-law, who lived with them, was a nurse and was on a night shift.
Vineeta and Akash entered into an argument, and Akash, in a fit of rage, used a grinding stone to crush her head. The pregnant woman died at the scene, as her daughter watched helplessly. The child sat by her mother's body the entire night inside the empty home, according to police.
The incident came to light only Monday morning after the mother-in-law returned home from the hospital. On seeing the child and her daughter-in-law's lifeless body, the woman alerted her neighbors.
Police officers who arrived at the scene spoke to the little girl, who told them about her uncle's visit and subsequent murder. "The woman was allegedly killed by her brother-in-law and her daughter is a witness. A first information report has been registered in the case and the accused will soon be arrested. The reason for the murder is still unclear," a senior police official told The Times of India.
In a similar incident, a six-year-old boy had to witness his father fatally shoot his mother before turning the gun on himself. The incident happened in May in Colorado.
According to Aurora Police Department, the shooting happened at East Kansas Place. Police found the body of Sarah Terry Smith with a gunshot wound, while her partner Robert Terry's body was also nearby with "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
The child witnessed the shooting from the backseat of a car. Police believe Sarah was attempting to leave after strapping their son into his car seat when Robert shot her.
