Snapchat, Instagram Updates Add Stickers, Filters For Thanksgiving
With just a day before Thanksgiving many of us can't help but think of the family, friends and full plates Thursday's celebration will bring. While you might have to wait until Thursday for the turkey and pie you can celebrate the holiday before then on social media.
Chances are one of the apps you already use has filters and stickers available for you to add to photos and videos to celebrate a little early. Snapchat and Instagram already had stickers added to the app as of Tuesday evening, Facebook appears to be a bit behind with no stickers or filters added to the camera portion of the app yet.
On Snapchat the usual stickers were available along with some Thanksgiving themed ones. These early Thanksgiving stickers include one that will remind you of the elementary school days when everyone in class would draw a turkey using their hand as a stencil. The preliminary stickers mostly have to do with Thanksgiving food and the preparations that go along with it.
Users can add a smiling pie or a hat that reads "chef" to their Snaps in preparation for the holiday. Or add an animated turkey with the phrase "give thanks" or a big pan of stuffing prominently featuring the word "stuffed."
On Instagram there are a few more stickers available, including several turkeys making faces, one is smiling, one has heart eyes and the other looks content. These are similar to the acorn stickers that appeared around the beginning of the fall season. There's also a "Happy Thanksgiving" sticker available along with a pretty place setting of animated decorative gourdes and a set table complete with animated candle sticks.
But what would Thanksgiving be without the leftovers? Of course there's a large sandwich as well and a pumpkin spice latte to round it out.
If you were hoping for a filter to make you look like a turkey or a pilgrim from the first Thanksgiving you'll have to keep your fingers crossed a bit longer. Neither app has such features on it yet, but there are still a few days until the holiday for Snap and Insta to pull through.
More filters might be added as we get closer to Thanksgiving, but if you want a specific one you can always make your own filter for the day on Snapchat. You can even make it right in the Snapchat app if you want. They cost at least $5.99 and you can choose a specific area of space and time for the filter to last.
