  • Jack White will replace Morgan Wallen as "Saturday Night Live" musical guest
  • "SNL" dropped Wallen from its list of performers after he breached COVID-19 protocols
  • TikTok videos showed him partying without a face mask on and kissing multiple girls

Morgan Wallen was supposed to perform on "Saturday Night Live," but the show axed him days before his performance for breaking COVID-19 protocols. Jack White will replace him as musical guest, creator Lorne Michaels confirmed on the "Today" show on Friday.

"We're still in the middle of it. I know Jack White is coming in," he told Willie Geist. "Calling someone on a Thursday to be here for a Friday is complicated. It has to be people who are ready to go."

Geist added that Michaels might also be trying to get additional stars on "Saturday Night Live," but the showrunner did not drop any names.

"SNL" removed Wallen from its list of performers after TikTok videos showed him partying without a mask on among a large group of people last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Wallen was also seen kissing multiple women in a clip.

"He probably isn't the first country singer, the first person from rock n' roll who partied after a big game, in that case, a football game or a concert," Michaels said of Wallen. "We're just living in different times and everything is scrutinized."

Wallen has since apologized for what he described as "pretty short-sighted" actions in a post on Instagram. Though he tested negative for the coronavirus, he took full responsibility for potentially putting other people at risk.

"I’m not positive for COVID, but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted and they’ve obviously affected my long term goal and my dreams," Wallen said. "I know that I put them in jeopardy, and I take ownership of this."

"I like to apologize to 'SNL,' to my fans, to my team, for bringing me these opportunities and I let them down," he added.

The former "Voice" contestant also said that he had a lot growing up to do because he lost himself "a bit." Wallen shared in the video that he was looking for joy but looked for it in the wrong places. He also announced that he will be taking a step back from the spotlight and working on himself.

His fans and followers remain supportive of him, cheering Wallen up in the post and encouraging him to "come back stronger."
