‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 14: Kaylee Millis, Lex Ishimoto Excel While Darius Hickman Goes Home

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 recently aired its first Academy round, and some acts excelled while others were sent packing.

On Monday night, some crowd favorites from the auditions were eliminated after they failed to impress this season’s 10 all-stars in the hip-hop round. NappyTab choreographed a hip-hop routine that all of the dancers had to do. They were asked to choose a dance partner who they will perform with in front of the all-stars.

Darius Hickman, who first appeared in the premiere episode, was booted off after he failed to impress the other professional dancers with his moves. Hickman previously touched the hearts of judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens when he revealed that he grew up in an abusive home.

Just like Hickman, Jensen Arnold’s dance partner, Tristen Sosa, was sent home. Arnold and Sosa performed a samba ballroom routine during their audition, and they both received a ticket to the Academy. But when they performed separately, Sosa failed to rise to the occasion. Arnold, on the other hand, made it to the next round. The young dancer also happens to be the sister of former “SYTYCD” contestant and current “Dancing With the Stars” pro Lindsay Arnold.

Dance teacher Ryan Bailey also left the competition on Monday night after all-star Alison Holker told him that his routine did not connect with her that much. Bailey incorporated bizarre moves to his dance number, and none of the all-stars felt that he was ready for the competition.

But if there were some early favorites that went home, there were also some who made it to the next round. Kaylee Millis, InYoung Lee and Lex Ishimoto were instant crowd favorites. During their respective routines, all 10 pros couldn’t help but gasp at their moves. They also cheered them on nonstop. By the looks of it, the three dancers will make it to the live shows and will be teaming up with an all-star throughout the duration of Season 14.
