Sofia Vergara Attends Emmy Awards With Son, Explains Husband's Absence

Sofia Vergara took her son Manolo as her date to the Emmys.

On Sunday, the "Modern Family" star hit the Emmy Awards red carpet with her son, Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara, 26. Vergara looked happy despite the absence of her husband, Joe Manganiello, who couldn't make it to the awards show due to a prior commitment, Entertainment Tonight reported.

"It's amazing," Manolo said of escorting his mom to the Emmys, jokingly adding, "She invites me when Joe's busy, so..."

"[Joe's] shooting a movie in New York. So I'm like, 'Manolo, you wanna come?'" Vergara explained.

The mother and son share a great relationship. In fact, when Manolo celebrated his birthday last week, the "Hot Pursuit" star threw a birthday bash for him at the TAO in Los Angeles and shared photos from the event on her Instagram account.

In one photo Vergara shared on Instagram, Manolo is all smiles while seated at a table with a few guests. "Happy bday hijo!!" she wrote in the caption.

Manolo also shared snapshots from his party on his own Instagram account. In one photo, he is seated at a table with his birthday cake in front of him, a big grin on his face. "It has been 26 years since i escaped my mother's womb. And i only have these amazing people and beautiful people who care about me to show for it," he wrote in the caption.

Meanwhile, Manganiello and Vergara are set to share the big screen in their upcoming movie, "Stano." The couple has been spotted filming together in New York City since July.

"Stano" tells the story of "a man who returns to the Bronx after serving 17 years in prison for a violent mistake he made as a kid that ultimately robbed him of a professional baseball career and the love of his life," Deadline reported.

Although not a lot of details have been released about the flick, it has been speculated that Vergara will play Manganiello's love interest. After all, they have been showing great chemistry together right from the first day of shooting.

Vergara and Manganiello started dating in July 2014. In December of the same year, the couple got engaged. They exchanged "I do's" in November 2015 in Palm Beach, Florida.
