Some Twitter Users Want Ebola Nurse Amber Vinson To Die For Flying Commercial
Some Twitter users said Wednesday that nurse Amber Joy Vinson should be killed for endangering American lives by flying from Cleveland to Dallas on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143 just days after treating Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The calls by Twitter users came after Centers for Disease Control Director Thomas Frieden said that Vinson "should not have traveled on a commercial airline.” And anger mounted at the CDC for not having a system in place to stop her from traveling on a commercial airline.
"so the nurse that was infected with Ebola decided to fly around the country? They should just kill her for being so stupid," Twitter user @JohnTaormina tweeted Wednesday evening.
Fears of Ebola becoming a full-blown pandemic have been growing as a series of missteps by health authorities have been revealed in recent weeks and as the virus continued to spread around the globe and entrench itself more deeply in West Africa.
Vinson contracted Ebola while treating Duncan, the Liberian man who became the first person to die of Ebola in America when he passed away on Oct. 8 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The nurse was diagnosed with the disease on Wednesday, just two days after returning from Cleveland to Texas on the Frontier Airlines flight. She called the CDC before her flight on Monday to report that she had a 99.5 Fahrenheit but she was not told to avoid flying, further stoking anger against both her and the CDC.
There was also outrage over Wednesday reports that the Dallas hospital where Duncan died didn't require nurses to wear hazmat suits for the first two days of his treatment, and that training and equipment were lacking there and in hospitals across the U.S.
Some Twitter users expressed anger by saying that she should die, while others simply predicted she would end up getting killed.
