Sony Reportedly Updating Xperia Z5, Z3+ Phones, Z4 Tablet To Android 7.0 Nougat
Sony is already giving many of its clients the taste of Nougat. The Japanese electronics company has begun rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat software update to its Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z3+ phones. It may also be giving its Z4 tablet the Nougat treatment this week or next week.
The Xperia Blog reported about the release of Android 7.0 to the Xperia Z5 on Tuesday. According to the blog site, the update with the build number 32.3.A.0.372 is rolling out to Xperia Z5 owners just a couple of days since the firmware got certification for release. The update is for the entire Z5 family of phones. However, only the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z5 Premium have access to Nougat as of writing. Xperia Z5 Compact owners have yet to receive the notification about the software update.
A day after Sony Mobile brought Nougat to the Z5 phones, Xperia Blog noted that the update is also rolling out to the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z3+ Dual smartphones. The two handsets are getting the update that has the same firmware build code as the one for the Z5 phones. Having similar build codes mean that the same features and fixes are arriving to the Sony phones.
Some of the Nougat features that are confirmed to be part of the update are the multi-window view mode, the self-timer button for the front-facing snapper and the new Xperia Home launcher that has Google Now integration. The X Lockscreen and the manual camera controls are not part of this update.
GSM Arena has learned that the Xperia Z4 tablet is also getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Unfortunately, there is still no indication that the update is already rolling out to the tablet device. It’s possible for the Z4 to receive a notification about the new OS later this week or early next week.
