Sony Reveals Next 'God Of War' Release Details, Platforms And More

Sony and Santa Monica Studio recently shared details about the next "God Of War" game including information about the game's release and launch platforms.

The next "God Of War" title, fondly called by many fans as "God Of War: Ragnarok," will not release this year, contrary to the announcement Sony made last year. Instead, the much-awaited AAA title will release sometime in 2022.

Santa Monica Studio, the developer of the latest "God Of War" series installment shared about the delay on Twitter.

Unfortunately, the gaming studio did not reveal the original release window of the game. However, it's believed the team intended to release the next "God Of War" title in 2021.

"We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families," the statement from the "God of War" developer noted. "With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022."

Amidst the delay, there is still some good news for "God of War" fans, particularly PlayStation 4 owners. In a recent Q&A session shared on the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst confirmed that the next "God of War" game would launch on PlayStation 4 as well.

"Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that," the executive said talking about the company's plan now that the new generation PS5 is out.

"And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them," Hulst added. According to the executive, "You can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it, right? I think that’d be bad news for fans of PS4, and frankly not very good business."

The next "God Of War" game has no release date or official title yet.
