Sony’s New Xperia Phone Teased To Fit ‘In The Palm Of Your Hand’
At a time when smartphones are becoming increasingly wider and bigger, a smartphone designed to fit in the palm of one’s hand can be a refreshing device. That’s what Sony is going for.
A video posted on Sony’s official Instagram page reveals a video that seems to indicate that it is going to release a new smartphone that fits in a person’s hand, unlike many flagships today that necessitate the use of two hands to manipulate.
Sony’s teaser video starts with a 5-second countdown made using hands. After the countdown, the words “Xperia in the palm of your hand” appear, one after another, followed by “IFA 2019,” “Berlin,” “CET 13:00” and a hashtag, “#SonyIFA.” The video then ends with the Xperia branding coming in variety of colors eventually turning into white.
The video doesn’t explicitly say anything about the new device. 9To5Google speculated that this new device can be expected to launch alongside the Xperia 2 this year, or that this could actually be the Xperia 2.
Details via the video
People who monitor the leaks and rumors about Sony’s upcoming device will likely notice the colors used as backgrounds for the words written above. The black, blue and dark red/purple colors featured in the teaser video all correspond to leaked renders of the upcoming Xperia 2, WinFuture previously reported (via 9To5Google).
Furthermore, the hands in the video seem to indicate that the device is designed for use with one hand. This likely means that the upcoming device will retain the 21:9 aspect ratio its predecessor had, and will be slim enough to be held comfortable with just one hand.
Other rumored specs
The video didn’t reveal any of the device’s specs. Rumors (via GSM Arena), however, state that the device will have a 6.1-inch OLED display with 4K resolution. The device is said to have a smaller screen compared to the Xperia 1. The leaked renders also indicate that the phone will have a rear triple-camera array, a fingerprint reader mounted on the right-hand side, and volume rockers next to it.
Sony might equip the upcoming smartphone with a Snapdragon 855 SoC, along with a base 6GB of RAM and base 128GB of internal storage.
