Sophie Turner Jokes About How She 'Hated' The Jonas Brothers
Having your spouse publicly declare to the entire world that at one point they “hated” you would probably cause a fight between most couples. But Sophie Turner had no problem sharing her previous feelings about husband Joe Jonas’s famous band, the Jonas Brothers.
The 24-year-old actress revealed to Elle that, as a child, she and her friends “were not Jonas Brothers fans.”
“There was this band in the UK called Busted,” she said. “They had a hit called ‘Year 3000.’ It was amazing, and we were huge Busted fans. Then the Jonas Brothers covered the song and made it massive. And Busted broke up. We thought it was all the Jonas Brothers’ fault. So we hated them.”
The “Year 3000” was originally released by Busted in 2002 and reached No. 2 in the UK, according to Billboard. The Jonas Brothers first covered the song in 2006 with slightly different lyrics and it helped to kickstart their career. It was one of their earliest hits along with “Burnin’ Up” and “Hold On.”
Turner maintained her disdain for the Jonas Brothers all the way up until her first meeting with Joe Jonas at a bar in Camden, London in 2016.
“I expected him to show up with security and everything. I thought, ‘He’s gonna be such a [expletive],’” she said.
What she did not expect was an immediate connection that would leave the two of them talking “for hours, and hours” in a corner of the bar.
Their engagement in October 2017 and marriage in May 2019 quickly helped solidify them as one of the most searched-for couples on the internet, according to data from SEMrush that Billboard reported.
Now, Turner is happy with her marriage and her new family, which includes actress Priyanka Chopra (married to Nick Jonas). She loved marrying into a family that was so close-knit and where she felt secure.
“I need that, because I like to feel like I belong to something that’s, like, bigger than just me,” she said.
