Souls-Like 'Final Fantasy' For PS5 In The Works, Everything To Know – Report
KEY POINTS
- Team Ninja is reportedly working on a souls-like spin-off for "Final Fantasy"
- The game is said to be set in the world of the first "Final Fantasy" game
- Team Ninja also worked on "Nioh" and "Dissidia NT"
It seems like RPG fans are going to be in for a ride as an unlikely combination between the venerable “Final Fantasy” franchise and the brutally-punishing “Souls” series is apparently being developed. “Final Fantasy” is no stranger to getting spin-off games in different genres, but seeing it get slapped with the “Souls-like” tag is definitely surprising.
This new spin-off game is set to be revealed at the upcoming virtual E3 2021 conference this June, IGN reported. The upcoming title will be heavily inspired by “Dark Souls” but set in the universe of the first “Final Fantasy” game that was originally released back in 1987.
The game has been given the title “Final Fantasy Origin” and is set to be a PS5 console exclusive, Fanbyte reported. It will be released on PC after the initial launch, according to the outlet.
Not much information has been officially revealed, but the report said that Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja will be working on this spin-off game.
Team Ninja is known for developing the “Dead Or Alive” and “Ninja Gaiden” games. The studio also has experience with designing a souls-like game in the form of “Nioh” and its sequel, which have both been praised for their unique take on the formula created by the “Souls” series.
The developer has previously worked on a “Final Fantasy” game in the past, creating “Dissidia NT” for Arcade and the Playstation 4 back in 2015. “Dissidia NT” is a fighting game spin-off of the “Final Fantasy” franchise that featured characters from all of the games in the mainline series.
Should this rumor be true, then fans of both “Final Fantasy” and “Dark Souls” will have a potential blockbuster to look forward to. Team Ninja was able to capture the essence of the “Souls” series by striking a balance between difficulty and fairness to an acceptable degree.
Creating an “FF” game with the same brutal difficulty as a “Souls” game implies that fans might be able to see a darker and bleaker version of the “Final Fantasy” series. It’s unknown whether or not the spin-off title will have players reprise the role of the original Warrior of Light, but at this point, anything is possible.
Players can expect the game to play like a mix of “Nioh” and “Dissidia,” blending the flashiness of the latter with the precise and calculated movements of the former.
