Wave your hands in the air if you feel fine about these basketball stars joining “Space Jam 2.”

Reported by Watch Stadium’s NBA insider Shams Charania on Twitter, sources have revealed a handful of NBA and WNBA be joining LeBron James and the Looney Tunes in “Space Jam 2,” in keeping the tradition of the original.

Among the rumored new cast members is the Lakers’ Anthony Davis, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard from the NBA, as well as Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi and Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike from the WNBA.

Charania also said more players from each league "are expected to play roles," specifically citing Ogwumike’s sister and Sparks power forward Chiney Ogwumike as an example.

At one point, rumors stated that James, who is also producing the film with Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther”), was having difficulty recruiting other players for the sci-fi comedy sequel, but these issues appear to have subsided. Also appearing in the film is Sonequa Martin-Green (“Star Trek: Discovery”), who will play James’s wife.

The original “Space Jam” from 1996 famously starred Michael Jordan as himself in a comedic adventure that sees him recruited to help Bugs Bunny and company defeat an evil gang of aliens in a basketball game. NBA stars Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues made cameos in the film alongside Jordan. The film was a hit, bringing in $230 million worldwide, despite receiving poor reviews at the time.

Plot details are scant on the sequel, but it will presumably follow a modernized form of the original’s story, with James at the center.

Warner Bros. will release “Space Jam 2” on July 16, 2021.
