Spain intends to recognize Palestinian state
Spain will recognize a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders before September, said Alfonso Manuel Portales, Spanish Consul General in east Jerusalem, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Fatah Central Committee member, Nabil Shaath said in a Monday press release that he explained Palestine's strategy to seek full recognition of a Palestinian state to Portales -- after Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu destroyed all hope of ending the conflict with direction negotiations with his speech to Congress. Portales said Spain was planning to recognize that.
Shaath's announcement came after a meeting with Portales in Ramallah, where, the Post reported; Shaath said the Palestinian Authority was seeking to procure additional backing and international recognition.
According to the press release, Portales stressed his country would support the making the state of Palestine a member of the United Nations.
