An evil spirit seemingly takes over JJ’s body in tonight’s Halloween episode of “Speechless.”

In a sneak peek from Season 2, episode 5 of the ABC comedy series, JJ (Micah Fowler) is having his regular therapy session when his therapist Joyce (Liz Cackowski) feels something unusual about his knees.

“JJ, your knees are tight, really tight. It’s like it’s resisting me,” Joyce says, as Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) tries to figure out what’s wrong.

Suddenly, JJ’s eyes turn red. And when he gives Joyce an evil look, the therapist is mysteriously thrown out of the house through the window.

After hearing Joyce’s scream, Maya (Minnie Driver), Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), Ray (Mason Cook) and Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) all run to the living room to check out what happened.

“Full disclosure, due to a mishap involving an Ouija Board that could have happened to anyone, JJ might be under the control of an evil spirit,” Kenneth tells the DiMeos.

The whole scene, however, might only be part of a dream sequence, as the synopsis for the episode reveals that JJ, Ray and Dylan mistakenly eat an old Halloween candy that causes feverish dreams of horror and wish fulfillment.

According to Uproxx, the episode also sees Ray and Dylan swapping bodies. The news outlet revealed that the writers had a hard time selling that idea to ABC, as it’s so far outside the show’s usual reality. Series creator Scott Silveri, however, reportedly looked at the idea as the kind of big swing that would allow them to get more grounded and serious in future episodes.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kenneth agonizes over which era of Michael Jackson to dress as for Halloween.

In addition to Fowler, Yarbrough, Driver, Bowie, Cook, Kenedy and Cackowski, the Halloween episode also stars Marin Hinkle as Dr. Miller, Jonathan Slavin as Mr. Powers, Jerry Hauck as doctor, Lynn Andrews as escape room employee, and Anthony Ramirez as football player.

“Speechless” Season 2, episode 5, titled “N-I--NIGHTMARE ON D-I--DIMEO STREET,” airs tonight at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ABC. Watch the sneak peek from the episode below:
