‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Features Actor From The Tobey Maguire Trilogy
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” included plenty of familiar faces, but there was one face who was new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe—yet “Spider-Man” fans know him well.
[Spoiler Alert: The ending of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is revealed below.]
J.K. Simmons reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson. The actor played the same character in 2002’s “Spider-Man,” 2004’s “Spider-Man 2” and 2007’s “Spider-Man 3,” all starring Tobey Maguire in the titular role. This time, however, the character is a little different.
The first post-credits scene shows Peter (Tom Holland) taking MJ (Zendaya) swinging through Manhattan. He drops her off in Midtown and is about to leave when a news report comes on a giant billboard.
Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) has one last illusion: framing Spider-Man for the attack on London and revealing his identity as Peter Parker. Of course, this was all broadcast by Jameson and his website, TheDailyBugle.net.
This seems to be the first time that the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought in someone to reprise their role from a different cinematic universe. It isn’t clear if J.K. Simmons will have a larger role in future movies or if it’s just a fun cameo for longtime fans.
It sounds like director Jon Watts might not know either. He teased that he has some research to do before starting work on his third “Spider-Man” film.
“You get to see Peter reveal his identity to the world in Civil War [comic books],” Watts told ScreenRant. “I’m going to have to do that homework too now, I’ve sort of painted myself in the corner. I gotta go back to the archive.”
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is in theaters now.
