When Will Marvel Announce Next Movies After ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’?
UPDATE: July 6 -- Marvel Studios has confirmed their 90-minute panel at San Diego Comic-Con will be held Saturday, July 20 at 5:15 p.m. PDT.
Original story: “Spider-Man: Far From Home” isn’t the final Marvel Studios movie, but it is the last one confirmed. The studio has been keeping its Phase 4 slate top secret, and they’re expected to finally reveal what’s coming up next sometime this summer. The real question is: when?
Initially, Marvel didn’t want to reveal any “Avengers: Endgame” spoilers with a Phase 4 announcement. The existence of “Far From Home” already gave away that Spider-Man survived, but they needed to keep other resurrections under wraps. Then, they wanted to keep the focus on “Endgame” and “Far From Home,” so they continued to keep the new movies secret. With the Spidey sequel officially in theaters, fans are anxiously awaiting the big news.
Disney CEO Bob Iger previously said the reveal would be sometime this summer. While Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige declined to say exactly where the announcement will be made, he hinted that it could be at either or both of the big pop culture events this summer, San Diego Comic-Con and D23.
“I don’t know that we’ve officially announced either way. We usually only go to Hall H when we have a lot of stuff to talk about and reveal,” Feige told Cinema Blend. “Seems like we have a lot of stuff to talk about or reveal. But we’ll see what we officially announce one way or the other. There’s also D23 later this summer, and we’ve always gone to D23.”
It seems like Marvel wants to go for an existing event rather than creating their own as they did with Phase 3. For that announcement in 2014, they packed the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles with fans and press to reveal the lineup.
They could even break up the announcement into pieces to reveal information at both SDCC and D23 Expo, which is a Disney convention. Marvel fans should mark their calendars for San Diego Comic-Con, happening July 18-21, and D23, held in Anaheim, California, from Aug. 23-25.
However the studio decides to announce Phase 4 (if they even call it that), they have plenty to reveal.
Though Marvel has yet to officially confirm anything, fans already know some of what’s coming. “Black Widow” is already filming, and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is in the works. “The Eternals” and “Shang-Chi” are reportedly casting.
Plus, sequels are Marvel’s bread and butter. Follow-ups to “Black Panther,” “Doctor Strange” and “Captain Marvel” are expected. The post-credits scenes in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” make it clear that Tom Holland has at least one more solo movie coming. There is also the question of if there will be a fifth “Avengers” film or if a new group of superheroes will start teaming up under a new name.
In any case, it sounds like Marvel fans have plenty of exciting announcements to look forward to later this summer.
