'Spiderhead' Trailer: Chris Hemsworth Runs State-Of-The-Art Prison In Netflix Sci-Fi Movie [Watch]
Netflix took to Twitter on Tuesday to drop a trailer for the highly anticipated sci-fi movie "Spiderhead." The teaser features Chris Hemsworth, who plays Steve Abnesti, running a state-of-the-art penitentiary.
The two-minute clip opens with Hemsworth talking to Miles Teller, who portrays a prisoner named Jeff, while a glass wall separates them. Teller apologizes to Hemsworth for being late, to which the latter replies, "not late at all."
The next scene shows a plane flying toward the correctional facility called Spiderhead, which appears to be located on a remote island. Hemsworth can then be seen telling Teller that staying here is not a punishment but a privilege.
It is followed by a preview of the different experiments Spiderhead inmates undergo, like getting injected with a substance that makes them do an array of activities. As this happens, someone can be heard saying, "In science, we have to explore the unknown."
Toward the end of the trailer, however, scenes of chaos and destruction unfold, hinting at the possible outcomes of the experiments.
"You ready for a crazy trip?" Netflix wrote in the video's caption. "Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett star in Spiderhead, premiering June 17."
"Spiderhead" revolves around a unique prison where convicts are given a chance to participate in experiments in exchange for shortened sentences for their crimes. It is helmed by Joseph Kosinski, who is also responsible for directing "Top Gun: Maverick." Its screenplay is by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The movie, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 17, also stars Jurnee Smollett, BeBe Bettencourt, Joey Vieira, Tess Haubrich, Angie Milliken and Charles Parnell.
Besides "Spiderhead," Hemsworth will appear in the Marvel movie "Thor: Love and Thunder," which is directed by Taika Waititi. Set to hit theaters on July 8, the movie's cast members also include Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Matt Damon, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Pratt.
The 38-year-old actor will also reprise Tyler Rake's character in the sequel of "Extraction," which is currently under post-production.
It can be recalled that Hemsworth posted a behind-the-scenes video from "Extraction 2" in March. "Just another quiet day on Extraction 2. Peaceful, serene, relaxing," the actor says in the clip, which features the making of a riot scene in the film.
