Square Enix recently unveiled a number of new titles and incoming games in their recent “Square Enix Presents” live stream, and one notable announcement is a new “Life is Strange” that will come with remasters of the first two games.
“Life is Strange: True Colors” will be the third mainline game in the award-winning narrative-focused video game series. The new story will revolve around Alex Chen, a seemingly-ordinary girl who has the power to manipulate the emotions of others.
Alex will explore the fictional town of Haven Springs, Colorado, to shed light on the mysterious death of her brother while also unveiling the secrets of the quaint mountain town, all while using her powers to the benefit of her and other people.
“True Colors” will follow the same basic formula that the past games in the series used. The narrative will focus on drama and character building, with an emphasis on consequences made by the decisions of players as they progress through the story.
Deck Nine Games is spearheading the development of the project; the same studio that created the “Life is Strange: Before The Storm” prequel. “True Colors” has been in development since 2017, and Deck Nine Games chief creative officer Zak Garris said the game has been “a labor of love” for the company.
Garris also noted that “True Colors’” story will focus on empathy and the use of Alex’s psychic powers to navigate through the events.
“True Colors” will have a totally unique story, but there will be a few familiar faces in the game. Two characters from “Before The Storm,” Ryan and Steph, will make a reappearance. It’s implied that they will both play a major role in the story of “True Colors” and may potentially serve as love interests for Alex.
Meanwhile, the remastered editions for the first and second “Life is Strange” games will come as a bundle that’s slated for a fall 2021 release date. However, each remastered game will eventually be available as standalone purchases later on in the year.
“Life is Strange: True Colors” will release on Sept. 10, with Deluxe and Ultimate editions available for purchase.
