KEY POINTS

  • Stamp Fairtex is out to make history in her atomweight title showdown with Angela Lee
  • Stamp will become a three-sport champion if she beats Lee at ONE X
  • The Thai believes that she can end Lee's nearly six-year championship reign

History could be made this Saturday, March 26 as Stamp Fairtex is set to challenge Angela Lee for the women's atomweight title in the headliner of ONE Championship's 10th-anniversary extravaganza titled "ONE X."

Success has never shied away from Stamp ever since she joined the Singapore-based promotion nearly four years ago.

Initially scouted by Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series, the Thai striker gave a good account for herself in her main-roster debut, capturing the kickboxing atomweight championship from Taiwan's Kai Ting Chuang by way of unanimous decision in October 2018.

Four months later, she logged her name in the organization's record books as the first two-sport world champion by outpointing American standout Janet Todd for the inaugural women's Muay Thai atomweight belt in five rounds.

Stamp then shifted her attention to the mixed martial arts (MMA) gold around the waist of Lee, aiming to be the first combat sports athlete to hold world titles in three different disciplines at the same time.

She tore through the competition in the 52.2-kilogram weight class, beating Asha Roka, Bi Nguyen and Puja Tomar.

However, her bid sustained an unexpected turn of events as she shockingly dropped the kickboxing strap to Todd in their February 2020 rematch and then relinquished her hold of the Muay Thai trinket to Brazilian newcomer Allycia Hellen Rodrigues six months later.

To rub salt into the wound, Stamp opened her 2021 campaign by suffering her first loss in MMA at the hands of Alyona Rassohyna via third-round submission courtesy of a guillotine choke.

With her back against the wall for the first time in her prizefighting career, Stamp had no other choice but to persevere in the face of adversity.

Stamp had a shot at redemption when it was announced that she was one of the eight participants in the ONE Women's Atomweight World Grand Prix--with the winner earning a date opposite Lee who took a sabbatical for an extended period when she became pregnant with her first-born child Ava Marie.

In the quarterfinals of the tourney, the Rayong, Thailand native got her revenge against Rassohyna, defeating her Ukrainian rival via split decision to advance to the next phase.

She then punched her ticket to the finals by outlasting late replacement Julie Mezabarba over the course of three rounds in the semis.

Stamp shocked the world in the finals of the ONE Women's Atomweight World Grand Prix, claiming victory over India’s wrestling phenom in Ritu Phogat with a second-round armbar submission.

With the remarkable conquest of Phogat to end her 2021, the 24-year-old added the silver-plated World Grand Prix belt to her collection of championship titles.

She is on the cusp of permanently etching her name in the annals of ONE Championship history as a win over Lee on Saturday will enshrine her as the most decorated fighter and the first-ever three-sport world champion under the organization's banner.

“My first goal was to achieve the kickboxing belt, followed by the Muay Thai belt. And I would also like to be the MMA champion, for which I need to beat Angela Lee. It’s only a step away for me to win the MMA belt, then I will be the only one in history to own belts in three sports," Stamp said.

“It’s been so long that Angela Lee has held her championship that it’s getting boring in the weight class. It’s time for a change. It’s time for a new champion. I’ll be the new ‘Unstoppable.’”

Stamp plans to leave no stone unturned when she shares the cage with the returning Lee at ONE X.

“I’ve never trained as hard as I have now. Angela Lee has it all. She’s a complete fighter, and a lot of my preparations have centered around improving my defense in all areas. I need to be well-prepared for this fight,” she stated.

“Ever since I started fighting, I have been very motivated to reach my full potential. I want to be the first athlete in ONE Championship to win world titles in three different sports. My dream hasn’t changed.”
