Stan Lee Has A Cameo In Guardians Of The Galaxy Ride At Disneyland
It’s not really a Marvel movie without a Stan Lee cameo, and apparently that rule goes for theme park rides too. The Marvel Comics legend is a part of the new Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! ride at Disneyland.
An Instagram user published a photo from the attraction, which opened to the public Saturday at Disney California Adventure, revealing that Lee appears in the lobby. According to the several social media posts, park goers were waiting in line for over five hours to try the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride, so they had plenty of time to check out the fascinating lobby.
Luckily, there’s tons of Easter eggs to keep audiences entertained while waiting for the drop tower, which used to be the Tower of Terror. The lobby is designed to be the Collector’s lair. Taneleer Tivan, played by Benicio Del Toro in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, collects tons of odd alien things, from artifacts to Howard the Duck. According to the Hollywood Reporter, there are over 2,200 artifacts to keep Marvel fans fascinated during the wait. It looks like Lee is among his collection in the Disneyland attraction.

It isn’t clear if Lee’s appearance will connect to his cameo in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” as a man talking to the Watchers or to his appearance in the first film where he Rocket called him a “Class A creeper” while speaking to a younger woman. However, it seems unlikely to connect to any of Lee’s other cameos. Fans should know that this isn’t the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that they’re looking at, according to director James Gunn.
“There are different universes of the Marvel universe,” Gunn told THR. “There’s the 616 universe, which is the comics, there is the MCU, which is the universe that I have normally played in, and now there is the theme park universe which is very closely related to the MCU, but it’s a separate universe. And what you see happen in this ride is not the same thing that you see happen in the MCU.”
Though the ride is not part of the film universe, it still stays true to the characters, which includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista) and more. Gunn, who will return to write and direct the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, collaborated with Disneyland to create the ride.
“I worked with them on maintaining the characters’ integrity and unique personalities, directed the actors in the footage, helped to choose the musical selections, and gave them every bit of advice I could on the overall aesthetics of the Guardians and of course on visual effects,” he wrote in a Facebook post Saturday. “Mostly I wanted to make sure the Guardians had the same heart they do in the movies.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! ride isn’t the only new attraction in Disney Parks inspired by a Zoe Saldana movie. Pandora — The World of Avatar also opened in the Animal Kingdom park this weekend at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Similarly long lines are reportedly at the “Avatar” attraction.
