'Star Wars: Battlefront 2': EA Shows Off 'Stunning' Concept Art
The early reviews of “Star Wars: Battlefront 2” were bad, but no one can find fault with the visuals in the gameplay. After acknowledging the problems of the game in a previous post, Electronic Arts has now released a set of concept art pictures to show off the result of all their hard work for the game.
The latest post on the Electronic Arts website showed the concept art that was used to develop the visuals of the game. A big part of the visuals is the powerful Frostbite game engine, but there is a big role for the artists to play as well.
By releasing the concept art pictures, the Electronic Arts team hopes that the fans will understand and appreciate the role this specific part of the development process plays. The team then joked that they also wanted to show off the “stunning” pictures.
The first step of this process is brainstorming of the development team with the Lucasfilm story team. They have to take into consideration movie references, the setting and the mood while deciding on a specific concept art. They also have to take into consideration the characters and creatures that are present in a specific environment.
The graphic artist then uses 3D software like Maya to create the environment. The image is then rendered, and additional paint work is done in Photoshop. The artists are given some source material, such as movies, for them to base the colors on. The final image for “Star Wars: Battlefront 2” has to not only look good on screen, but it should also be a part of the unified universe of the franchise.
Polygon hailed the concept art pictures as worthy of a “Star Wars” movie. Among the familiar locations in the pictures are Jakku, Kamino, the Death Star, Maz’s castle in Takodana, the Great Temple on Yavin 4, Kashyyyk, Theed, Naboo, Geonosis, Hoth, Starkiller Base, Kessel and Endor.
With all the tweaks and new content for the game, “Star Wars: Battlefront 2” is attracting gamers back. In a previous post on the Electronic Arts website, the developers of the game said that they are encouraged by the patience of the fans who stuck with them as they took measures to improve the game.
More exciting content has been planned for 2019. The first big update for “Star Wars: Battlefront 2” will include familiar faces like Count Dooku and Anakin Skywalker. There is also a new design of Stormtroopers to look forward to.
