The latest entry in the “Star Wars” franchise, “The Rise Of Skywalker,” has received a lot of polarizing reviews since its release.
Critics have panned the makers for their lack of imagination, and due to this, the movie has become the second lowest rated “Star Wars” movie on review site Rotten Tomatoes. And now, director JJ Abrams has broken his silence on the reviews and discussed the criticism that the film has been getting since its world premiere on Dec. 17.
Speaking in an interview with Vanity Fair, the 53-year-old filmmaker revealed that it is impossible to please everyone with the conclusion of the franchise because everyone wants to see their version of the story on the big screen. When asked if the ardent fans of the saga are getting what they expected from the final film, the “Force Awakens” helmer stated that whatever the people are saying is “right” and the people who loved the movie are “also” right.
“No, I would say that they are right. The people who love it more than anything are also right,” Abrams said after a screening of the movie in Hollywood.
Talking about the film, Abrams also mentioned how there is an outrage among people these days when things don’t go as per their wishes. The “Star Trek” helmer further added that the people can mke you their enemy if they don’t get what they want to see.
“I was asked just seven hours ago in another country, ‘So how do you go about pleasing everyone?’ I was like ‘What?’ Not to say that should be what anyone tries to do anyway, but how would one go about it? Especially with ‘Star Wars’. There is an MO of either: ‘It is exactly as I see it, or you are my enemy’,” Abrams said.
The filmmaker concluded by saying that the fandom phenomenon is not just limited to “Star Wars.”
Many critics in their review explained how the force doesn’t seem to be with the final film of the epic saga. The Guardian in their review noted that till the time anyone doesn’t “dwell” on the logic too much, he or she will enjoy the movie. On the other hand, netizens can’t seem to get enough of the film and are showering praises on the members of the film for giving what they needed.
